Background Information

The Gordon D. Schaber Downtown Courthouse of the Sacramento Superior Court houses the main administrative offices of the court, as well as containing trial courtrooms, the department of the Presiding Judge, and the general civil and criminal case processing support units. 

Three buildings in the immediate vicinity of the Downtown Courthouse also provide court services.  Located at 800 9th Street are Departments 53 and 54, hearing general civil law and motion matters. Located at 800 9th Street, first floor, is Department 59 where general civil settlement conferences are heard.  The Erickson Building is located at 520 9th Street where civil matters are heard in Departments 57 and 58.

From the Bay Area and points west
Take the Interstate 80 freeway to Interstate 5 north.  Exit at the J Street exit.  J Street is a one-way street, heading east.  Follow J Street to 8th Street and turn left.  8th Street is a one-way street, heading north.  The Downtown Courthouse is located on the block that is fronted by 8th and 9th Streets and G and H Streets.

From North Sacramento and points north
Take the Business 80 freeway to Highway 160.  Highway 160 becomes 12th Street, moving into the downtown area.  Turn right onto G Street.  The Downtown Courthouse is located on the block that is fronted by 8th and 9th Streets and G and H Streets.

Take Interstate 80 to Interstate 5 south.  Exit at the J Street exit.  J Street is a one-way street, heading east.  Follow J Street to 8th Street and turn left.  8th Street is a one-way street, heading north.  The Downtown Courthouse is located on the block that is fronted by 8th and 9th Streets and G and H Streets.

From South Sacramento and points south
Take Interstate 5 north.  Exit at the J Street exit.  J Street is a one-way street, heading east.  Follow J Street to 8th Street and turn left.  8th Street is a one-way street, heading north.  The Downtown Courthouse is located on the block that is fronted by 8th and 9th Streets and G and H Streets.

Take Highway 99 north.  At the interchange, follow the signs leading to westbound Interstate 80 (toward San Francisco).  From Interstate 80 west, take Interstate 5 north.  Exit at the J Street exit.  J Street is a one-way street, heading east.  Follow J Street to 8th Street and turn left.  8th Street is a one-way street, heading north.  The Downtown Courthouse is located on the block that is fronted by 8th and 9th Streets and G and H Streets.

From Rancho Cordova, Folsom, and points east
Take  Highway 50 west (toward San Francisco).  Take Interstate 5 north.  Exit at the J Street exit.  J Street is a one-way street, heading east.  Follow J Street to 8th Street and turn left.  8th Street is a one-way street, heading north.  The Downtown Courthouse is located on the block that is fronted by 8th and 9th Streets and G and H Streets.

Parking Information

Metered parking is available on all streets surrounding the Gordon D. Schaber Downtown Courthouse (meters take only quarters).  There are also a limited number of  free two-hour street parking spaces available on D, E, and F Streets.  In addition, the following public lots are available within walking distance.
