Driving Instructions

From the Bay Area and points west
Take the Interstate 80 freeway to Interstate 5 north.  Exit at the J Street exit.  J Street is a one-way street, heading east.  Follow J Street to 8th Street and turn left.  8th Street is a one-way street, heading north.  The Downtown Courthouse is located on the block that is fronted by 8th and 9th Streets and G and H Streets.

From North Sacramento and points north
Take the Business 80 freeway to Highway 160.  Highway 160 becomes 12th Street, moving into the downtown area.  Turn right onto G Street.  The Downtown Courthouse is located on the block that is fronted by 8th and 9th Streets and G and H Streets.

From South Sacramento and points south
Take Interstate 5 north.  Exit at the J Street exit.  J Street is a one-way street, heading east.  Follow J Street to 8th Street and turn left.  8th Street is a one-way street, heading north.  The Downtown Courthouse is located on the block that is fronted by 8th and 9th Streets and G and H Streets.

Take Highway 99 north.  At the interchange, follow the signs leading to westbound Interstate 80 (toward San Francisco).  From Interstate 80 west, take Interstate 5 north.  Exit at the J Street exit.  J Street is a one-way street, heading east.  Follow J Street to 8th Street and turn left.  8th Street is a one-way street, heading north.  The Downtown Courthouse is located on the block that is fronted by 8th and 9th Streets and G and H Streets.

From Rancho Cordova, Folsom, and points east
Take  Highway 50 west (toward San Francisco).  Take Interstate 5 north.  Exit at the J Street exit.  J Street is a one-way street, heading east.  Follow J Street to 8th Street and turn left.  8th Street is a one-way street, heading north.  The Downtown Courthouse is located on the block that is fronted by 8th and 9th Streets and G and H Streets.


Parking

Free parking is available in the JURY PARKING LOT located between F & G and 8th & 9th Streets as indicated on the map on your jury summons.  A valid jury parking permit must be displayed on your vehicle dashboard to park in the dedicated Jury Parking Lot.  Parking in this lot is on a first come, first serve basis.

Overflow parking is now available once the Jury Parking Lot is full and is paid for by the County of Sacramento.  The overflow parking lots are:

  • City Lot 297 on 7th Street South of G Street
  • The County Public Lot at 725 7th Street
  • The City Hall Lot at 10th and I Streets

Presentation of your JUROR PARKING PERMIT or badge located at the top right hand corner of your summons will be required and you must write your jury badge number on the parking lot ticket or coupon.

Parking in the overflow lots when there are parking spaces available in the dedicated Jury Parking Lot at 8th and G Streets will be at the juror's expense.

Bicycle Parking

If you wish to ride a bicycle to and from the courthouse for jury service, there is a secure bike parking cage located in the county public parking lot across the street from the courthouse.  The cage is at the northeast corner of 7th and H Streets.  Show the lot attendant your juror's badge. A $5.00 refundable deposit is required.

 

Public Transportation Options

If you wish to use public transportation to get to and from the courthouse for jury service, you can ride RT for free using an RT Transit ticket (Courthouse Commuter ticket). Eliminate the hassles of fighting traffic congestion, finding a parking spot, and buying gas when you’re on jury duty – ride Regional Transit (RT)!

RT has bus and light rail stops just a few blocks from the courthouse entrances. Most downtown buses have stops on 7th or 8th at K Street, and RT’s St. Rose of Lima Park light rail station is nearby on K Street.

Service from Elk Grove and South County cities to the Courthouse:

E-tran has bus stops just a few blocks from the courthouse entrances. Routes 49, 52, 57, 58, 59, 60 and 66 have stops on 7th or 8th at K Street. These routes operate only during the commuter period between 5:30 am and 8:30 am and again from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm.

If you live in Galt, you can ride SCT/LINk highway 99 Express and connect with E-tran Route 52 in Elk Grove to get to the Courthouse in downtown Sacramento.

How Does Regional Transit Free Ride Work?

On the first day:

1.  Purchase a $2.00 single pass ticket (or $1.00 senior/disabled discount fare) the first time you take an RT bus or train to the Courthouse.

2.   See jury staff and you will receive one RT ticket for your ride home and and additional ticket for your next trip to the Courthouse.  There are no cash reimbursements.

3.    If using the bus, the operator will collect your ticket when boarding.  If using light rail, you will need to validate your ticket in the "Ticket Validator" machine before boarding the light rail.

On subsequent days:

1.  You will receive two more tickets for your next trip to and from the Courthouse.

At the end of jury duty, you will have one ticket remaining to use on a future RT trip.

How does e-tran Free Ride Work for Elk Grove and South County residents?

On the first day:

1.  Pay the $1.50 basic or 75 cent discount fare the first time you take an e-tran bus to the Courthouse.

2.  See jury staff and you will receive one e-tran or RT ticket for your ride home and an additional ticket for your next trip to the Courthouse.  There are no cash reimbursements. 

3.  The bus operator will collect your ticket when boarding.

On subsequent days:

1.  You will receive two more tickets for your next trip to and from the Courthouse.

At the end of jury duty, you will have one ticket remaining to use on a future e-tran trip.

Note:  E-tran accepts RT tickets.
