About Red Light Camera Citations
Citations issued by automated enforcement systems
(red light cameras) are issued to the registered owner of the vehicle
involved in the incident. The citations are issued by local law
enforcement agencies and mailed to the address provided by DMV within 15
days of the incident. If you are the owner of the vehicle and were not
driving at the time the citation was issued contact the law enforcement
agency who issued your citation (See section below "If you were not the
driver.")
Courtesy Notice
When you receive your copy of the citation from the
law enforcement agency it will include a date to appear in court. The
court also receives a copy of your citation and mails a courtesy
notice to the address on the citation. This courtesy notice contains
the time and date scheduled for your appearance as well as the amount of
bail you can pay to resolve the case. Other important information,
including traffic school information, is included on the courtesy notice
from the court. Failure to receive a courtesy notice does not
relieve the driver of responsibility for the citation.
You must appear or contact the court by the date
on your citation. Failure to appear or contact the court will result in
additional penalties being added to your case.
If you were not the driver
A picture of the person driving the vehicle at the
time the citation was issued appears on the citation you receive from
the law enforcement agency. If you were not the driver you must take
action. Contact the agency who issued the citation. Do not
send payment to the court if you were not the driver. The agency
will contact the court with the correct driver information. If you fail to
contact the agency or do not appear on your assigned date, additional penalties
will be added to your case and your driver’s license will be suspended.
